Fast charging

what is fast charging?

Smartphones, laptops, chargers and cables, fast charging for all devices has become the norm but what does that actually mean? Fast charging is a word that is freely and frequently used for the marketing of every single charger and device that is advertising itself to be quicker than the standard which at this point is 5 watts. There are different technologies which support these fast charging capabilities, but there is an absence of common language. Besides this lack of conformity, you should also be aware that a lot of manufacturers advertise their product to provide fast charging capabilities, while in fact the product only supports the 5W standard.

How Fast Charging Works:

Amperage, voltage, and watts are the basic charging units. Amperage (or current) is how much electricity passes through the battery to your phone or other connected device. Voltage is the speed or strength at which the current flows. Watts is equal to amperage times voltage. One of the most common analogy used is a watering hose. Amperage (or current) is the width of the proverbial hose, voltage is the pressure, and watts is how much water is flowing from the hose.

How does Fast Charging turn up:

There are two phases to charging. In the first step, the charging rate increases with a higher voltage. Fast charging chargers take advantage of this phase to increase power flow. After the battery sufficiently charged, the charger reduces the voltages preventing overheating or overcharging of the battery ensuring safety for both the smartphone and charger.

How do you charge faster?

You’ll need the right equipment before you begin your high-speed charging adventure. The same fast charging standard must be supported by all of your gadgets, including laptops, tablets, and smartphones. In certain situations, your cable may even need to support the fast charging protocol that both your device and charger adhere to.

Once your phone, laptop, or other device has a charger and cable that meet the fast charging standard, note the fastest charging speed that each one can achieve. For instance, a smartphone with a maximum charging speed of 18W will charge at 18W if you use a 27W charger with it.

Types of Fast Charging Standards

The two most popular and original fast charging standards are Qualcomm Quick Charge and USB Power Delivery, or USB-PD. Additionally, you may be familiar with TurboPower, Adaptive Fast Charging, or SuperCharge. Many of these are based on Qualcomm Quick Charge and have been rebranded for marketing purposes. Since Apple uses the USB-PD standard in their devices, your iPhone will work with any USB Power Delivery charger or cable.

Is fast charging safe?

Your phone and charger may get warm while charging because these technologies enable your smartphone to charge more quickly than usual. Use premium chargers and cables with all the necessary certifications to make sure you’re always charging safely. Fast charging is just as safe as regular charging when using fully certified accessories.
